Self-limiting beliefs are those things you have come to believe about yourself that place limitations on your abilities. They may be conscious or unconscious. For example;

  • I am so ugly - nobody will want me !
  • I am not good enough; I won’t get the job !
  • Success happens to other people !

Who you are and what you do is all down to your beliefs; your thoughts about your self. They determine your behaviour and actions, which determine your attitude. Our confidence is determined by our self belief. Our lack of confidence stops us doing the things that we would like to do.

Self limiting beliefs, are formed during childhood and are influenced by a persons up bringing, family and friends, social environment and schooling.

Often people of low self worth - will have been bullied at school; been a loner - had few friends and will have had a parent who was very controlling or manipulative. They are probably in a relationship or have been in relationships were they are still emotionally manipulated or physically bullied.
